Finnish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly from Proto-Finnic *-ppa, from Proto-Finno-Permic *-ppa, but the narrow distribution and rarity means this is highly uncertain. At least in slang the suffix may instead be a more recent labialized form of -kka.

Suffix[edit]

-ppa (front vowel harmony variant -ppä, linguistic notation -ppA)

  1. Forms some nouns, mainly clippings and in slang.
