Etymology
Noun
potoroo (plural potoroos)
- Any species of the genus Potorous of the rat kangaroo family Potoroidae, endemic to Australia. [from 18th c.]
- 1998, Terence Lindsey, Mammals of Australia, New Holland, published 2004, page 41:
- Potoroos resemble bettongs, both in size and lifestyle, but the potoroos have a more tapered head and pointed snout, a less robust build and a shorter tail.
