Etymology

From عِيد (ʕīd, eid, holiday, festival) and أَضْحَى (ʔaḍḥā, sacrificial animal, victim): "Festival of the Victim," "Festival of the Sacrifice," after Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in Islamic tradition.
