[edit]From عِيد (ʕīd, “eid, holiday, festival”) and أَضْحَى (ʔaḍḥā, “sacrificial animal, victim”): "Festival of the Victim," "Festival of the Sacrifice," after Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in Islamic tradition.
