From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ćatwārHśát, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čatwārHćát, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷetwr̥h₁ḱomt (“four-ten”). Cognate with Ancient Greek τετρώκοντα (tetrṓkonta), Latin quadrāgintā.
