أَصْلًا (ʔaṣlan)

  1. originally

    ʔanā ʔaṣlan min baḡdād.
    I’m originally from Baghdad.
  2. at all; in the first place
    لِماذَا فَعَلْتَ ذٰلِكَ أَصْلًا؟
    limāḏā faʕalta ḏālika ʔaṣlan?
Why did you do that in the first place?
  3. anyway
