lëmsh
Albanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Albanian *lemesja, from Proto-Indo-European *lemesi-o-, a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *lem- (“to break”). Cognate to Lithuanian lemesis (“sharp edge of the plough”), Proto-Slavic *lemešь (“ploughshare”).[1] Orel claims the transition of '*broken lump of earth' > 'globe of earth' to be 'one of the oldest'. Related to lëmë.
