Usage notes
This term translates both ฮผฮฌฯฮฑฮนฯฮฑ (mรกkhaira, โshortswordโ) and แฟฅฮฟฮผฯฮฑฮฏฮฑ (rhomphaรญa, โlong and broad swordโ). It appears thus to be broader in sense than ๐ผ๐ด๐บ๐ด๐น๐ (mฤkeis), which only translates ฮผฮฌฯฮฑฮนฯฮฑ (mรกkhaira).
Declension
The form ๐ท๐ฐ๐น๐๐ฐ๐ฟ (hairau), which is identical to the vocative and dative singular, is only attested with an accusative singular meaning.
