Usage notes

This term translates both ฮผฮฌฯ‡ฮฑฮนฯฮฑ (mรกkhaira, โ€œshortswordโ€) and แฟฅฮฟฮผฯ†ฮฑฮฏฮฑ (rhomphaรญa, โ€œlong and broad swordโ€). It appears thus to be broader in sense than ๐Œผ๐Œด๐Œบ๐Œด๐Œน๐ƒ (mฤ“keis), which only translates ฮผฮฌฯ‡ฮฑฮนฯฮฑ (mรกkhaira).

Declension

The form ๐Œท๐Œฐ๐Œน๐‚๐Œฐ๐Œฟ (hairau), which is identical to the vocative and dative singular, is only attested with an accusative singular meaning.
