Inherited from Proto-Slavic *mъrščiti. Compare Bulgarian мръ́щя (mrǎ́štja), Czech smrsknout, Slovene mŕščiti, Old Church Slavonic съмърсканъ (sŭmŭrskanŭ), Polish marszczyć, Ukrainian мо́рщити (mórščyty).
