From the root ه ن د س (h-n-d-s), from هَنْدَسَة (handasa, “geometry, architecture, engineering”), from earlier هَنْدَزَة (handaza), from هَنْدَاز (handāz), borrowed from Middle Persian handʾc- (handāz-), hndʾhtn' (handāxtan, “to plan, allot, reckon, judge”), or hndʾck' (handāzag, “measure, manner”) (> Persian اندازه (andāza)). Has the form of a noun derived from the active participle.
