From the root ه ن د س(h-n-d-s), from هَنْدَسَة(handasa, geometry, architecture, engineering), from earlier هَنْدَزَة(handaza), from هَنْدَاز(handāz), borrowed from Middle Persian handʾc- (handāz-), hndʾhtn' (handāxtan, to plan, allot, reckon, judge), or hndʾck' (handāzag, measure, manner) (> Persian اندازه(andāza)). Has the form of a noun derived from the active participle.
