Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish طانیمق (tanımak), from Ottoman Turkish طانی (tanu-, to talk to), from Proto-Turkic *tanu- (to get to know). Akin to Proto-Mongolic *tani- (to know).

tanımak (third-person singular simple present tanır)
