From Middle French poupée, from Old French poupee, popede (cf. also Lua error in Module:parameters at line 360: Parameter 1 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "ML" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF.), or Vulgar Latin *puppa (with the French suffix -ée later added), ultimately from Latin pūpa (“girl; doll, puppet”).
