From Proto-Celtic *rādīti (compare Welsh (ad)rodd), from Proto-Indo-European *Hreh₁dʰ- (to arrange) (compare Sanskrit राध्नोति (rādhnoti), राध्यति (rādhyati, to perform successfully), Old Church Slavonic радити (raditi, to take care of, work), Gothic 𐍂𐍉𐌳𐌾𐌰𐌽 (rōdjan, to talk), Lithuanian rodýti (to show).
