Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic. Cognate with Bulgarian радея (radeja, care for), Russian радеть (radetʹ, care for). Non-Slavic cognates include Ossetian рад (rad, order), Sanskrit राध्यते (rāhyate), राधति (rādhati) and राध्नोति (rādhnoti, succeed), Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐍂𐌴𐌳𐌰𐌽 (garedan).
