Etymology

Either from Greek καίω (kaío, to burn) and αυγά (avgá, eggs)[1] or borrowed from Ottoman Turkish خاگینه (hagine), itself from Persian خاگینه (xâgine)[1]. Compare Serbo-Croatian ка̏јгана/kȁjgana.
