unit circle (plural unit circles)

  1. (geometry) A circle of radius 1.
  2. (trigonometry, the unit circle) The circle of radius 1 with centre at the origin, used in defining trigonometric functions.

Usage notes

  • Unit circle is seldom used in the simple geometric sense, where "a circle of radius 1" is much more common.
