មមែ
Khmer
Etymology
From Old Khmer mamē or mamēha, "goat (zodiac)", from Vietic. Compare Thai มะแม (má-mɛɛ). Doublet of ពពែ (pɔpɛɛ).
The medial -m- originated from the assimilation of -ɓ-, due to the labial minor syllable: *m-ɓ- > m-m-. The similar phenomenon also occurred with មមី (mɔmii). See Ferlus (2013) for more.[1]
