Etymology

From Old Galician-Portuguese, from Vulgar Latin *acūtiāre, present active infinitive of *acūtiō, from Latin acūtus, the past participle of acuō. Compare Catalan agusar, French aiguiser, Italian aguzzare, Occitan agusar, Spanish aguzar.
