Formed from patologia, which was originally a purely medical term, however, through the term "rodzina patologiczna" (which means a dysfunctional family), the meaning of "patologia" was changed in the informal language to refer to the lowest, poorest and dysfunctioning class of society; for example, people who become stealing alcoholics because of poverty.
