From Latin parallēlus, a borrowing of Ancient Greek παράλληλος (parállēlos). Compare Italian parallelo, French parallèle, Russian паралле́льный (parallélʹnyj), Polish paralela, English and German parallel, Yiddish פּאַראַלעל (paralel).
