Etymology

From Hebrew אֲחַשְׁוֵרוֹשׁ (Akhashverósh) from Old Persian 𐎧𐏁𐎹𐎠𐎼𐏁𐎠 (Xšayāršā, ruler among kings). Cognates include Xerxes from Ancient Greek Ξέρξης (Xérxēs), from the same Old Persian name.
