From Arabic اَلْمُدَوَّر ‎(al-mudawwar, the round thing)‎, from مُدَوَّر ‎(mudawwar, round). The name probably refers to a nearby hill; تَل اَلْمُدَوَّر ‎(tal al-mudawwar, round hill) is a fairly common Arabic placename.
