Etymology[edit]

Catalan botanist Antoni Palau i Verdera / Antonio Palau y Verdera described the type species, a novelty in the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid opened in 1781 near the National Museum of Natural Sciences, in his Parte práctica de Botánica Part I (1784) page 767–771 to honour then Crown Princess of Spain Maria Luisa of Parma.
