Proto-Finnic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably borrowed from Proto-Germanic *wunskijaną. From the same source as Proto-Samic *oskōtēk. Alternatively related to Erzya озкс (ozks, prayer); Udmurt оскыны (oskyny), Komi-Zyrian эскыны (eskyny), Eastern Khanty [Term?], all from Proto-Finno-Ugric *iske, but the initial vowel is problematic.

Verb[edit]

*uskodak (stem *usko-)

  1. to believe
  2. to have faith
