@JohnC5: The only way is to add the pagenames to the list of redlink checking exemptions in Template:redlink category. Unfortunately, there isn't a function to detect whether a certain number of expensive functions can be called. I started a task for adding a function like that, but haven't followed up after my initial post — Eru·tuon 23:53, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
