Via Ancient Greek Καρχηδών (Karkhēdṓn) from Phoenician 𐤒𐤓𐤕𐤇𐤃𐤔𐤕 (Qrt-ḥdšt, new city). Compare Hebrew קֶרֶת (qeret, city) and חָדָשׁ (ḥāḏāš, new), Aramaic קַרְתָּא (qartā, city) and חֲדַתָּא (ḥəḏattā, new), Arabic قَرْيَة (qarya, village) and Arabic حَدِيث (ḥadīṯ, new).
