Terms derived from various Middle Indo-Aryan languages, such Prakrit and Pali through Sanskritization (sometimes also called hyper-Sanskritization, re-Sanskritization, or hyper-Sanskritism). The sociolinguistic prestige of Sanskrit often gave rise to restitution-driven hypercorrection, i.e. using knowledge of regular sound innovations from Sanskrit to Middle Indo-Aryan in an attempt to revert these phonological processes. Numerous previously unattested Sanskrit words have hence been "falsely" reconstructed by scribes and lexicographers.
