Should there be a set standard for Proto-Norse entries? I would like to make an entry for ᛋᛏᚼᛒᚼ (stAbA/staba) found on the Gummarp stone, but this word follows later orthography. Would such later words still be considered proto-norse or would they have to be omitted?Nayrb Rellimer (talk) 16:37, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

As a rule, such things should be discussed on the talk page for the "about" page for a language- in this case Wiktionary:About Proto-Norse (the standard shortcut is "WT:" plus the language (or in some proto-languages, the family) code: WT:AGMQ-PRO or WT:AGMQ). In cases such as this where there isn't one, you could ask at the Information desk (WT:ID) or the Beer parlor (WT:BP), or maybe the Etymology scriptorum (WT:ES) for proto-languages. The only people who would see a comment on a category discussion page like this are those of us who are patrolling recent changes.
As to your question: In general, if it's attested, we want it- the only question is which language header to use: is it late Proto-Norse or early Old Norse? Chuck Entz (talk) 14:11, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
