Why does the language description say that Tlingit is written with the Cyrillic alphabet? Instead it should mention the Coastal and Inland orthographies.

An orthography isn't an alphabet, it's the rules for using the alphabet. However foreign Tlingit orthography may be to English, as far as I know it's made up entirely of variants on Latin letters. As for Cyrillic: much of the early literature on Tlingit is in Russian, because Alaska used to be Russian territory. As a result, there are texts with Tlingit written using Cyrillic letters. Since we're not limited to one time period or one locality, we have to be able to represent the language however it's been written. Chuck Entz (talk) 07:27, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Because it is easy to convert between the Coastal and Inland orthographies, is there a way to auto-generate entries in Inland orthography, or automatically redirect searches in one orthography to the other where words are the same except for spelling? Could we make an auto-converter like the automatic Cyrillic-Latin converter?

If you can describe the rules, then someone could attempt to make a converter for you using Lua. Redirecting searches based on orthography is not possible at this time. DTLHS (talk) 22:43, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
