Three categories for the same thing[edit]
Why do three different categories for the same thing: "Vietnamese terms derived from Chinese," "Category:Vietnamese terms borrowed from Chinese," and "Sino-Vietnamese words," exist? 204.11.186.190 14:37, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- "Borrowed" means it directly comes from Chinese. "Derived" means it can be traced to Chinese. "Sino-Vietnamese" means it is made of components that come from Chinese, including compounds that were created in Vietnamese. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 14:56, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
Why, then, do none of those categories say any of those things in the category header (preferably with a mention of the other two categories and their purposes), to make it completely clear? I can think of Vietnamese words (most Vietnamese words of Chinese origin) that would fit into all three categories, with the situation of two-syllable words of Chinese origin having their syllables reversed to fit Vietnamese subject-adjective convention (this condition not even being mentioned anywhere in any of the category headers). Unless it's very clear to everyone why these three extremely similar categories are needed (through good descriptions in the header of each of the categories), we should go with a single category for Vietnamese words of Chinese origin. 76.189.141.37 20:17, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
