[edit]Borrowed from Arabic قُرْآن (qurʔān, “recitation”), from قِرَاءَة (qirāʔa, “reading, recitation”), from قَرَأَ (qaraʔa, “to declaim, to recite”), apparently after Classical Syriac ܩܪܝܢܐ (qeriānā, “reading; scripture”).
