From Arabic قُرْآن ‎(qurʾān, recitation), from قِرَاءَة ‎(qirāʾa, reading, recitation), from قَرَأَ ‎(qaraʾa, to declaim, to recite), apparently after Classical Syriac ܩܪܝܢܐ ‎(qeriānā, reading; scripture).
