From Arabic قُرْآن (qurʾān, recitation), from قِرَاءَة (qirāʾa, reading, recitation), from قَرَأَ (qaraʾa, to declaim, to recite), apparently after Classical Syriac ܩܪܝܢܐ (qeriānā, reading; scripture).
