[edit]Borrowed from Ancient Greek κτενός (ktenós), genitive singular of Ancient Greek κτείς (kteís, “comb”). Further from Proto-Indo-European *pḱtḗn (“comb”) and Proto-Indo-European *peḱ- (“to pluck”).
