Borrowed from New Latin cyanopterus (blue- and black-feathered), itself borrowed from Ancient Greek κῠᾰνόπτερος (kuanópteros, blue- and black-feathered). Surface analysis cyano- (cyan) +‎ New Latin pterus (wing).
