Etymology[edit]

Literally, Saci Day, based on the Saci from Brazilian folklore.

This commemorative date was originally proposed in 2003 as a Brazilian replacement for Halloween (and taking place on the same date as well).[1]

Proper noun[edit]

Dia do Saci m

  1. A yearly celebration of Brazilian culture and folklore on October 31.

Usage notes[edit]

In Brazil, this celebration is sometimes associated with an opposition against Halloween, and more generally against American influence.[1]
