Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic дрѣновьць (drěnovĭcĭ), from дрѣнъ (drěnŭ) +‎ -овъ (-ovŭ) +‎ -ьць (-ĭcĭ), from Proto-Slavic *dernъ (cornel, dogwood).
