[edit]From Ancient Greek Ἐλευσίς (Eleusís, “Eleusis”), after the ancient Greek town associated with the Eleusinian Mysteries, the initiation rites to the cult of Demeter and Persephone, which is believed to have been based on an older agrarian cult.
