Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Low German vlūs, vlūsch (sheepskin) or a derivative thereof. The figurative sense may have been derived from “flock of wool” via “worthless thing”. The same word was later borrowed again in its original sense as Fluse (lint, fluff of fabric). Compare also Flausch.
