Etymology[edit]
Literally "lesser frigate". Originally named Pelecanus minor, "the lesser pelican"; when it was moved to Fregata as the greater frigatebird, the name minor had to be retained; the lesser frigatebird is Fregata ariel.
Proper noun[edit]
- A taxonomic species within the family Fregatidae – the great frigatebird.
