- Reduced Anglicized form of Irish Ó hÉanáin (“descendant of Éanán”), a personal name derived from a diminutive form of éan (“bird”).
- Reduced Anglicized form of Irish Ó hEidhneáin (“descendant of Eidhneán”), a byname from eidhneán (“ivy, ivy branch”).
