Etymology[edit]

Spanish variant of the male Biblical Hebrew יָאִיר (ya'ir) (via Ancient Greek Ἰάϊρος (Iáïros) and Latin Iairus), which means "God enlightens". In the Bible, Jairus was the father of a young girl resurrected by Jesus.
