1. (anime) Synonym of anime; Japanese animated cartoons.

Usage notes

This was the common term for anime in the 1980s, but was supplanted in the early 1990s among fans. It now sounds old-fashioned among anime fans, and is sometimes incorrectly claimed to be pejorative.
