Reduced Anglicized form of Irish Mac Fhionnáin (son of Fionnán), a diminutive of fionn (fair, blond) or of Ó Cianáin (descendant of Cianán), from which Keenan, or of Ó Cuinneáin (descendant of Cuinneán), from which Cunneen.
