Etymology

[edit]

From Luwian [script needed] (Kizzuwatna) possibly from Hittite [script needed] (kēz, from here, on this side) + Hittite 𒌓𒉈𒂊 (utnē, land), translating to the equivalent of "the land on this (to the) side".

Compare Akkadian [script needed] (Kisuatni), Egyptian [script needed] (Qode) and Ancient Greek Καταονία (Kataonía).
