Etymology[edit]

Originally eastern Finnish, Savo-Karelian Savo Finnish (Savonian dialect of Finnish) surname, possibly from an archaic/dialectal nickname korho (hard of hearing, deaf) +‎ -nen or dialectal korho (proud, rich, upright). First recorded in the Middle Ages.
