[edit]From Ottoman Turkish قسطنطینیه (Kostantiniye), from Arabic القسطنطينية, a definite relative noun from قُسْطَنْطِين (qusṭanṭīn, “Constantine”). Probably an ellipsis of اَلْمَدِينَة الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّة (al-madīna l-qusṭanṭīniyya, “the city of Constantine”).
