A Central and Low German word from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Low German and northern Middle High German kūle. The regular High German development is seen in older Kaule, the modern form was introduced via (deprecated template usage) [etyl] German Low German. Cognate to Dutch kuil, Luxembourgish Kaul.
