Etymology

(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

Proper noun

Lymnaea f

  1. A taxonomic genus within the family Lymnaeidae – the pond snails(Please check if this is already defined at target. Replace {{vern}} with a regular link if already defined. Add novern=1 if not defined.), large-sized air-breathing freshwater snails.

Usage notes

  • As genetic research indicates that the genus is polyphyletic, the existing definition is likely to become obsolete. The name may be given a new definition, ie, circumscription.
