Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from English Malacañang, from Spanish Malacañán, from Tagalog mamalakayahan (“place of fishermen”), or malakayahan (“place for fishing”), ultimately from lakaya (“to fish”). A common folk etymology is that the name was a univerbation of may + lakan + diyan.
