English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Likely derived from a corruption of the name of the French village of Saint-Méen. Less likely etymologies include a derivation from French Baie des Pins (derived in turn from baie (bay) and pin (pine tree)) or from the archaic verb ming (mix).
