Alternative encoding proposal

[edit]

I know nothing about Book Pahlavi, but the alternative proposal by Abe Meyers is interesting. It is based on letterforms and not on transliteration (pronunciation), and creates legible text with fewer contextual variants of letterforms, so it would make translating letterforms to codepoints and back again much easier than the proposal that this module is based on. See Chapter 3 (Problems with the Previous Encoding Models, p. 30) for some examples. But it would make transliteration harder; maybe it would require manual input?

Based on that chapter, I hope Abe Meyers's proposal will be the one chosen. Oddly the previous proposal (initial version) seems to be the only one mentioned in official documents on the Unicode website (such as this one). — Eru·tuon 21:42, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Erutuon, a new draft before the final draft is coming out next week, so we'll see what directly they go in. --Victar (talk) 00:48, 6 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
